We've started our sixth math unit of the year, and this one is all about multi-digit division. We've been tackling this tricky math concept by doing a lot of hands on work and problem solving with partners. We've learned many strategies to help us solve division problems, and students are encouraged to use a strategy that is just right for them. View the pictures below for examples of our division fun!
We have been working hard at getting our math homework done every night. We set a goal to have 90% of the class finish their homework. Every day that 90% of student completed their homework, we earned a letter toward spelling "HOMELINK" and when we spelled homelink, we got a special prize! As a class we decided that the reward we would earn would be a pajama day and a read in.
On February 19, we finally earned that reward! Students got to come to school in their comfy clothes, and we spent a whole hour of our afternoon reading! Now, we are working towards root beer floats! Yummy! For this week's blog there is a Valentine's Challenge. Choose three of these words to make a Valentine's card. The best three will be shown on the next blog post and you will get some Hershey Kisses. Turn them in by February 12, 2016.
Words to choose from: Love Sweetheart Kind Hugs Hearts Chocolate Be Mine Good Luck! From News Directors Rachel, Britain, and Dakota This week we had a lot of fun doing all sorts of exciting activities. It is finally not too cold for outdoor recess, so we were able to go outside and enjoy the snowy hills in our recess area. Dakota got a new puppy, and she asked for our help to think of some names. We gave her some suggestions, and she conducted a vote to see which names were most popular. We can't wait to see what she decides on! On Friday, we switched classes to perform two science labs. We've been studying the human body, and got to learn more about the Nervous, Respiratory, and Digestive Systems.
It was a good week, and we are looking forward to more learning next week! It's hard to believe Winter Break is right around the corner! Here are some pictures of what we've been up to lately. Enjoy!
We have classroom jobs and we have to pay rent for our desks. We love our jobs and we will tell you about them!
We have bankers. They keep banking records for us and they collect and give money to us for jobs and desks. Their names are Lucas, Troy, Britain, Miah, and Haydn. We also have a clerk that passes out papers and supplies. Their names are Rachel and Stephen. We have a technology supervisor named Alley! We have messengers too. They are Aiden and Zach. We have substitutes, JJ and Collin. We also have custodians, they clean the room. They are Lindsay, Larissa, and Reece. We have librarians (Coltan and Landen). And one attendance monitor (Nathan). You know us (Alivia and Breana), the news directors! Homework monitors are are Dakota and Kaylina. Last but not least are supplies specialists Vaughn and Skyler. Challenge: Write a story about a job you want to have when you get older. Did you know there is such a thing as a bull unicorn? The biologist that created this creature is named Dr. W. Franklin Dove. He did the experiment with a one day old calf. The cow only lived two years. Challenge: Find a cool picture of the bull unicorn! Have fun! Fun Facts brought to you by Alivia and Breana In our room we do labs. Our latest experiment was with rice krispies and static electricity. The first experiment was with skittles and hot and cold water. We can't wait for the next experiment.
One more thing, we have a challenge for you: Make your own experiment at home and tell us all the details in the comments. You have two weeks, have fun! Brought to you by News Directors Breana and Alivia |
